What Do the Ghoulish Folk Do?

Frankenstein's Monster and Count Dracula, after taking in a production of "Camelot" during the off season, ponder how to pass the time until it is the witching hour once again.  Sung to the tune of "What do the Simple Folk Do?"

FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER
What do the ghoulish folk do
For fun, when the ghoul season's through?
The pumpkin who is shriv'ling, the candy corn gone hard,
The black cat who is howling outside in the yard?
When they're cast out and laid off
Ghostly howls turned into coughs,
However do they manage to spend the summer days,
Oh, what do ghoulish folk do... for that phase?

COUNT DRACULA
I have been informed by those who know them well
They find relief in quite a clever way
When they're sorely pressed, they try new spells and charms.
These potions seem to brighten up their day
And that's what simple folk do
So they say

FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER
Make new charms?

COUNT DRACULA
So they say

(They shrug)

FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER
What else do the ghoulish folk do
To pluck up the heart and get through?
The skeletons and witches
Who wander to and fro
Have ways known to their own folk
That we just don't know.
When all the doldrums begin
What keeps each of them in his skin?
What ancient native custom provides the needed glow?
Oh, what do ghoulish folk do?
Do you know?

COUNT DRACULA
Once, upon the road, I came upon a skull
Singing in a voice three times his size
When I asked him why, he told me he was sad
And singing always made his spirits rise
And that's what ghoulish folk do.
I surmise.

FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER
They sing?

COUNT DRACULA
I surmise.

BOTH (singing)
Arise, good ghouls, arise, good ghouls
The ghosts are lighting the skies, good ghouls
The winds will howl and the werewolves growl
And bats echolate all the day
Hear banshees call to one and all
And feel a chill while you may
The world is dark, take a walk in the park
And frighten the children away!

FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER
What else do the ghoulish folk do?
They must have a system or two
They obviously outshine us at turning tears to mirth
And tricks count or monster is minus from birth
What, then, I wonder, do they
To chase all the sweet thoughts away?
They have some tribal sorcery you haven't mentioned yet
Oh, what do simple folk do to forget?

COUNT DRACULA
Often, I am told, they dance a ghoulish dance
And whirl 'till they're completely uncontrolled
Soon the mind is blank and oh, they're in a trance
A violent trance astounding to behold
And that's what ghoulish folk do
So I'm told

FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER
They dance?

COUNT DRACULA
So I'm told

(they dance)

FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER
What else do the ghoulish folk do
To help them pass time 'til Halloween's due?

COUNT DRACULA
They sit around and wonder what counts and monsters do
And that's what ghoulish folk do

FRANKENSTEIN'S MONSTER
(spoken)
Oh, no, really?

COUNT DRACULA
I have it on the best authority.

BOTH
(sung)
Yes, that's what ghoulish folk do

Every W.I.D.T.H. Way

I've found that there are really only a few ways to lose weight, but apparently there are a million reasons for why we want to, strive to, have to. I ask the folks that stop by this space from time to time to share their reasons for dropping the weight and/or moving towards a more healthy lifestyle. The answers never cease to amaze me.

People constantly ask me what the rules for submitting one of these is or if the deadline has passed. Don't you know me yet? There are no rules! There is no deadline! Communicate your message any damn way and email it to me at

Hello Jack, sorry for my bad English, but I write from Italy.
There are no interesting blogs about large weight losses in Italian (my language)...maybe because in Italy obesity is considered a secondary problem although it is becoming increasingly common and maybe because we are always arrears of 20 yers versus U.S.A about technology  and blogging for us is still a novelty;also it's not common to see people of 300-400 pounds...

My weight now is 134 kg (296 pounds) and i have a lot of weight to lose, so i have to read blog in english to encourage my self and i found your blog.

I send you a WIDTH pictures hoping that the english line is grammatically correct and i've write the same line in Italian.. maybe other italians read the blog.

ok,that's all...thanks for your humor.

get fitter and healthier!!!!
enjoy the road of life

Remembering Princess Diana...

Today, April 29, 2011 marks the wedding of the century. Prince William, the 1st born child of the late Princess Diana and the heir to the British throne married Kate Middleton. Watching their wedding brings back the wedding of Princess Diana to Prince Charles which everybody knows tagged as the fairy tale wedding. Sadly, their wedding did not come out as in the fairy tale "and they live happily ever after". We all know the history, they divorce, and a tragic accident that we have lost the England Rose.
For some who still didn't know, Princess Diana was a descendant of King James II of England through an illegitimate daughter, Henrietta Fitzjames by his mistress. Arabella Churchill. On her mother's side, Diana was Irish and Scottish, as well as a descendant of American heiress Frances Work, her mother's grandmother and namesake, from whom the considerable Roche fortune was derived
With all her deeds, stature, and grandeur she had lived differently, taken aside the protocol of a British monarchy, especially in rearing her children. I admired her a lot, from her face to the way she glances, to a smile to her elegant and classy dressing style to her no qualms in doing charity works and helping the needy. A true epitome of a queen. Diana was highly visible in support of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, a campaign that went on to win the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 after her death.
I don't wanna tackle here what she had been through while she's still married. We all know how sad she was. Watching Prince William's wedding, I have some regrets that she has not able to see and witnessed the wedding of her beloved son. Maybe if she's still alive, she would be happy to see how her  kids have grown and that how she has influenced her 1st born. My admiration for Her Royal Highness, Princess of Wales made me to buy books about her.  Lady Diana, Princess of Wales is the Queen of People's Heart.
A mourning was heard during Princess Diana's death at Westminster Abbey,  now an uproar of celebration for the wedding of her beloved son. Maybe that's the reason why Prince William now Duke of Cambridge wanted to hold his wedding with Kate Middleton now Duchess of Cambridge, to erase the bad memories Britons and his family have had at the time of his mother's death. Pray that it isn't another fairy tale but a true tale of love story and trust.

the way she glances..

the way she nurtures her children ...

the way she smiles...

Royal Wedding Jewelry: Catherine Wears Cartier & Robinson Pelham

The royal wedding jewelry shining from Kate Middleton (now Her Royal Highness Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge) was an understated display of elegance, grace and delicate diamonds.

The Tiara:

The subject of MUCH speculation, Kate 'borrowed' the Halo Tiara from The Queen's coffers, which was made by Cartier in 1936. The Queen's father, then the Duke of York, bought the bauble for the Queen Mother, then the Duchess of York (still with me?), who then gave it to her daughter - then Princess Elizabeth - on her 18th birthday.

Set in platinum, the priceless jewel is made from old and baguette-cut diamonds, with the upper part forming a range of lotus flowers and the lower 'zig-zag' part forming a removable piece that can be used as a bandeau.

No word yet on whether or not Catherine gets to keep it for her own collection - or if it's just a loaner. Stay tuned!

The Earrings:

Kate's understated earrings by Robinson Pelham were a gift from her parents - and were specifically designed to match her tiara. Nice touch.

According to Today Show blogger, The Windsor Knot, the earrings are diamond-set stylised oak leaves with a pear-shaped diamond drop and a pavé-set diamond acorn suspended in the centre.

Inspiration for the design comes from the Middleton family's new coat of arms, which includes acorns and oak leaves. Cool.

The Ring:

Kate's wedding band, which ALMOST didn't make it on her ring finger (nice work, Wills) is a rare band of Welsh gold by Wartski, who also crafted the Welsh gold wedding bands for Prince Charles and Camilla.

Prince William famously declined to wear a ring because he 'doesn't have a taste for jewelry'. It's a happy day. I'll leave this as a rare "No comment".

Overall, we witnessed a delicate diamond display that's in keeping with Kate's understated jewelry style. We'll see how long that lasts now that she has access to The Queen's stash!
