What Rhymes with Pelican?

A Pelican

by Jack Prelutsky

A pelican uses its steam-shovel bill
to gather more fish than can possibly fill
its pelican belly.

It's not out of greed . . .
that bill is a trough where young pelicans feed.

A CHARMed pelican Rookery can be found here.

Dora Diller and the Caterpiller

by Jack Prelutsky

'My stomach's full of butterflies!'
lamented Dora Diller.
Her mother sighed. 'That's no surprise,
you ate a caterpillar!'

Butterfly earrings are here.

A Skunk Sat in a Courtroom

by Jack Prelusky

A skunk sat in a courtroom.
A judge was on the bench.
He held his nose and shouted,
"What is that dreadful stench?"

"It's only me, Your Honor,"
the skunk said in retort.
"I thought I heard you calling
for odor in the court."

Skunky charms are here and here.

This is Schmedley.  He dines nightly Chez Cornerstoregoddess.

Sauruses and Saureses

Long Gone
by Jack Prelutsky

Photobucket

Don't waste your time in looking for
the long extinct tyrannosaur,
because this ancient dinosaur
just can't be found here anymore.

Photobucket

That also goes for stegosaurus,
allosaurus, brontosaurus,
and any other saur or saurus.
They all lived here long before us.

Photobucket

You can find non-extinct dinosaurs here and here.

Ballad of a Boneless Chicken

by Jack Prelutsky

I’m a basic boneless chicken,
Yes, I have no bones inside,
I’m without a trace of ribcage,
Yet I hold myself with pride,
Other hens appear offended by my total lack of bones,
They discuss me impolitely
In derogatory tones.

Photobucket

I am absolutely boneless,
I am boneless through and through,
I have neither neck nor thighbones,
And my back is boneless too,
And I haven’t got a wishbone,
Not a bone within my breast,
So I rarely care to travel
From the comfort of my nest.

Photobucket

I have feathers fine and fluffy,
I have lovely little wings,
But I lack the superstructure
To support these splendid thing.
Since a chicken finds it tricky
To parade on boneless legs,
I stick closely to the hen house,
Laying little scrambled eggs.

Photobucket

Boneless chicken right here.

My Mother's Chocolate Valentine

My Mother's Chocolate Valentine
by Jack Prelutsky

Photobucket

I bought a box of chocolate hearts,
a present for my mother,
they looked so good I tasted one,
and then I tried another.

Photobucket

They both were so delicious
that I ate another four,
and then another couple,
and then half a dozen more.

Photobucket

I couldn't seem to stop myself,
I nibbled on and on,
before I knew what happened
all the chocolate hearts were gone.

Photobucket

I felt a little guilty,
I was stuffed down to my socks,
I ate my mother's valentine...
I hope she likes the box.

Photobucket

If you ate all your mother's chocolates, you could always get her a bracelet instead. She'd probably like it a lot.

I Love You More Than Applesauce

I Love You More Than Applesauce
by Jack Prelutsky

Photobucket

I love you more than applesauce,
Than peaches and a plum,
Than chocolate hearts,
And cherry tarts,
And berry bubble-gum.

Photobucket

I love you more than lemonade,
And seven-layer cake,
Than lollipops,
And candy drops,
And thick vanilla shake.

Photobucket

I love you more than marzipan,
Than marmalade on toast;
For I love pies
Of any size,
But I love you the most.

Photobucket

LOVEly earrings here.

Three Nine Mice

Photobucket

Nine Mice

by Jack Prelutsky

Photobucket

Nine Mice on tiny tricycles
went riding on the ice,

they rode in spite of warning signs,

they rode despite advice
 The signs were right,
the ice was thin,

in half a trice,
the mice fell in,

and from their chin down to their toes
those mice entirely froze.

Photobucket

Nine mindless mice, who paid the price,

are thawing slowly by the ice

still sitting on their tricycles
...
nine white and shiny micicles

Photobucket

Micicles without icicles... Quite niceicles!

New Manatees and a Return of the Rhyme

Photobucket

I'm partial to the manatee,
which emanates no vanity.
It swims amidst anemones
and hasn't any enemies.
~Jack Prelutsky

Photobucket

My charms swim here.

My Frog Is a Frog

My Frog Is a Frog

Photobucket

by Jack Prelutsky

Photobucket

My frog is a frog that is hopelessly hoarse,
my frog is a frog with a reason, of course,
my frog is a frog that cannot croak a note,
my frog is a frog with a frog in its throat.

Photobucket

My frog could be your frog.

Ode to Squirrels

Photobucket

Squirrels, often found in parks,
Have tails, resembling question marks.

Photobucket

It's just coincidental, though:
There's little squirrels care to know.

Squirrel charms and more charms.

An Ode to the Manatee

A Manatee poem from Jack Prelutsky and a charm from me:

I'm partial to the manatee,
which emanates no vanity.
It swims amidst anemones
and hasn't any enemies.
