Waterlogged Babies

Weekly weigh-in: xxx.xx
Loss: -x.x
Total loss: -xx.xx
Emotion: xxxxxxxxx

There’s this group of people standing on a river bank, just joshing around and having a good ol’ time. Suddenly someone screams “OH MY GOD!”

Everyone turns their heads and the cries of an infant pierces the afternoon frivolity. Shocked, they see a little baby floating–well, drowning if you want to be truthful–in the flowing water.

One person immediately dives in to rescue the child, but as this is going on, yet another baby comes floating down the river.

And then another and another and another! People continue to jump in to save the babies, and then see that one person has started to walk away from the group still on shore.

“Where are you going?” they shout accusingly.

His response: “I'm going upstream to stop whomever's throwing babies into the river!”

That’s kind of how I feel about this weight-loss business. I spent years and years trying to deal with the effects of living too fat and too sedentary before finally getting serious and heading upstream to do something about the cause.

That said, I’ve been out of town on a business trip most of the week, so the scale and I aren’t on speaking terms right now.

I’m back though now… and I’m making my way upstream.
