Working Out Why Working Out Sucks Doesn’t Suck (plus Giveaway)
I’ll be honest: I was a little apprehensive as I started reading Working Out Sucks! by Chuck Runyon, the CEO and Co-Founder of Anytime Fitness. I figured that it would be a book-length brochure for his fitness center enterprise, and besides… I was already in the choir that he was preaching to.
I mean, didn’t I write posts like “Working Out Really Sucks,” “You Know What Sucks? Working Out!” and “Nothing Sucks Like Working Out Sucks”? No, I’m asking. Did I write those posts? I’ve written a lot of stuff and I can’t keep track of it all…
But as I got into the book, I noticed that there was something about the tone… a little bit snarky while still being smart, a little bit in-your-face confrontational while staying lively and conversational, that sparked my interest. Oh, there’re plenty of informative facts and figures (as well as a 21-day health and fitness, plus coupons for a free 30-Day Anytime Fitness club pass or a complimentary one-year Anytime Health online membership), but the whole thing comes off more like an intervention.
Chuck goes into vivid detail about all the roadblocks that we face on our path to a healthier life–lack of time, not enough money and the other usual suspects–then proceeds to drive a steamroller over each and every one of them in turn.
And it’s all true. All the excuses that trip us up aren’t nearly as daunting or intimidating as we like to make them out to be.
But where the book really drew me in were the personal accounts of real people and their watershed moments of how they changed their lives through a commitment to exercise and healthy living. These short, first-person accounts (accompanied by before-and-after pics) read like short blog posts and really drive home the message more that statistics and speechifying ever could.
Simple changes can make your life better. You can make a small investment in yourself and your future and see dividends almost immediately. Some days, working out DOES suck, but the only thing that feels worse that exercising is NOT exercising.
Note: If you need one more reason to pick up Working Out Sucks!, all profits from the book are going to Limbs for Life, a global nonprofit organization providing prosthetic care for individuals who can’t otherwise afford it.
Giveaways Don’t Suck! I know how you are about paying for things, so here’s your opportunity to get a free copy of Working Out Sucks!, compliments of Anytime Fitness.
Enter the following two ways:
• Mandatory Entry: Leave a comment on this post telling me what excuses you have used in the past to get out of working out.

INT. DINING SALOON

RUTH
Tell us of the food in steerage, Mr. Sh*t. I hear it’s quite good on this ship.
JACK
The best I've seen, m'am. Hardly any rats.
CAL
Mr. Sh*t is joining us from seventh class. He was of some assistance to my fiancee last night.
JACK
I just showed her the proper way to do pelvic thrusts.
CAL
Anyway, This is foie gras, Jack. It's…
JACK
Goose liver, I know. But did you know that foie gras is surprisingly low in bad fats and high in good fats?

What is Hockly hoping to prove, bringing this... blog-hemian... up here?
WAITER
(to Jack)
Would you care for some caviar, sir?
JACK
That’s a tough one… caviar’s really high in cholesterol and sodium, but on the other hand, it’s a rich source of vitamins A and D, as well as omega-3 fatty acids which some researchers say can aid in deterring depression.
RUTH
And where exactly do you live, Mr. Sh*t?
JACK
Well, right now my address is the RMS Fatanic. After that, I'm thinking about stowing away on the Good Ship Lollipop.
RUTH
You find that sort of rootless existence appealing, do you?
JACK
Well... I’m all about staying active, and seeing the world is a great way to do it. Plus, these big ships have really nice fitness facilities. I just hate that they serve 12 meals a day… and that midnight chocolate fountain dessert buffet is a killer! Literally and figuratively! But I’ve learned a hard lesson in this life: to make every calorie count.
MOLLY
Well said, Jack.
COLONEL GRACIE
Here, here.
ROSE
To making every calorie count.
RUTH
How is it you have the means to travel, Mr. Sh*t?
JACK
I have a very popular health and dieting blog.
GRACIE
How much does that make?
JACK
A whole lot, unless you mean actual cash money.

Mr. Andrews, what are you doing? I see you everywhere writing in this little book.
ANDREWS
Tracking calories. Our young friend Jack showed me how. See… one scoop of goose liver, 250 calories. It’s really quite informative.
ISMAY
It’s gotten to be Thomas’ obsession. He even made me thin out the walls of the hull to make room for that silly lap pool he wanted installed.
ANDREWS
I have to give Mr. Sh*t the credit for that idea.
COLONEL GRACIE
Well, join me for a brandy, gentlemen?
ROSE
Now they retreat into a cloud of smoke and congratulate each other on being masters of the universe.
COLONEL GRACIE
Joining us, Sh*t? Or are you going to lecture us on how unhealthy brandy is?
JACK
Actually, consuming 30 milliters of brandy per day reportedly has a similar antioxidant effect as a regular dose of vitamin C. But I’m going to get in a late-night workout. I might even do a little swimming once my supper settles…
ROSE
Well, Jack. Thank you for sharing all that useful info on eating healthy and exercise. Is that what your blog is all about?
JACK
No, that’s just the tip of the ice…

How The Binge Stole Fit-mass
Every Sh*t
Down in Sh*tville
Liked fitness a lot...
But the Binge,
Who lived just North of Sh*t-ville,
Did NOT!
The Binge hated fitness! Hated it worse than Gigli.
He just wanted folks to relax and eat pigily.
It could be that he just never learned to eat right,
Or that he sat on the couch and watched TV all night.
But I think that the most likely reason of all,
May have been that his pants were two sizes too small.
But,
Whatever the reason,
TV or tight pants,
There he was every Fit-Mas, his same hateful stance.
Staring down at the Sh*ts with a sour, Binge-y grimace,
At the active people working to unthicken their thickness.
For he knew every Sh*t down in the area down yon,
Was busy now getting their exercise on.
“And they’re doing their lunges!” he snarled with a sneer.
And watched all the lunging while swilling a beer.
Then he growled, with ranch dressing all over his chin,
“I MUST find a way to stop Fit-Mas, my friend.”
For, tomorrow, he knew...
...All the Sh*ts on the streets.
Would wake up bright and early. They’d down healthy eats!
And then! Oh, the tweets! Oh, the tweets! Tweets! Tweets! Tweets!
That’s one thing he hated! The TWEETS! TWEETS! TWEETS! TWEETS!
Then the Sh*ts, young and old, would head out for a jog.
And they’d blog! And they’d blog!
And they’d BLOG! BLOG! BLOG! BLOG!
They would blog with their run-times, and how they were feeling,
Which sent the Binge’s blood pressure up to the ceiling.
And THEN
They’d do something he liked least of all!
Every Sh*t down in Sh*t-ville, the big and the small,
Would all get together, no matter how fat.
They’d log onto their computers and they would all chat.
They’d yak! And they’d chat!
AND they’d CHAT! CHAT! CHAT! CHAT!
And the more the Binge thought of this healthy life chat,
The more the Binge thought, “I must stop this crap, stat!”
“Why for many a year I've put up with this brutal sh*t.
How to stop Fit-Mas from coming?
I’ll just Google it!”
There he got an idea!
An awful idea!
THE BINGE
GOT A WONDERFUL, AWFUL IDEA!
"”I know just what to do!” he said grabbing some bacon.
And he put on a fancy chef hat and an apron.
And he chuckled, and clucked, got his skillet well greased .
“No Sh*t can resist a big Binge-y feast!”
“All I need is some hash browns...”
The Binge checked for taters.
And fried them up nice with some peppery flavors.
Was that enough for the old Binge...?
No! The Bingle simply smiled,
“No one can resist homemade biscuits, child.”
So he whomped up some biscuits, then got some eggs fryin’.
No one could resist the food he’d be supplyin’.
THEN
He piled on his dishes,
Loading bowl after bowl.
He wanted to tempt
Every last Sh*tville soul.
Then the Binge said, “Let’s roll!”
With his sleigh full of yummies.
And he headed to on down
To feed food to the dummies.
The Binge entered town, a big clumsy drunk dude.
With a mind fulla malice and a bag fulla junk food.
When he came to the first house there in the town.
“This is stop one,” The Bingey Chef said with a frown.
And he threw his beer can down on the ground.
Then he entered the house, and in a move most unethical,
Went to the pantry and stole every vegetable.
Potatoes! And bok choy! Radishes! Kale!
Carrot sticks! Watercress! Turnips, as well!
“Let’s get rid of this stuff,” he said with a slow drawl.
And stuffed the whole mess down the disposal.
Then he slunk to the icebox. He took the Sh*t’s fruit!
The apples. Oranges. The gnarled ginger root.
He cleaned out that icebox being oh-so stealthy
And replaced all the foods with stuff most unhealthy!
He dropped off some Pop-Tarts.
He left marshmallow fluff.
Pre-packaged lunchmeat.
And other bad stuff.
And the one healthy speck
That the Binge left for grazin’
Was a piece of a part of an old cruddy raisin.
Then
The Binge went and
He did the same switchin’s
Leaving crap
Way unhealthy
In other Sh*t’s kitchens.
It was quarter past dawn,
The very start of the day
With the Sh*ts still asleep,
When he set up his buffet.
Loaded it up with omelets!
And sausage! And cornflakes!
And gravy! And waffles!
And cream cheese! And corncakes!
He loaded the tables with dishes overflowing,
And smiled as he thought of waistlines a’growing.
“Pooh-pooh to the Sh*ts” he was binge-ish-ly grinning.
This banquet I’m throwing is just the beginning.
By lunchtime, they’ll be full up to their chin,
And then I’ll serve up more goodies again.
Then all the Sh*ts down in Sh*t-ville will all DIVE RIGHT IN!”
“That's a sight,” grinned the Binge, "
That must be observed.”
So he paused, the Binge there by the food that he served.
But something was goin’ on that was kinda confusing.
The Sh*ts weren’t hurrying over after their snoozing.
Why, they paid no attention.
There was no rush to the feast!
He’d provided every temptation,
And they couldn’t care in the least.
He’d offered up calories there by the bazillions,
And couldn’t entice these hardcore Sh*t-villians!
The Binge popped his eyes!
Then he shook!
What he saw was a shocking surprise!
Every Sh*t down in Sh*t-ville, the fat and petite,
Were limbering up for a jog down the street.
He HADN'T stopped Fit-Mas from coming!
IT’S HERE!
The Binge stood there frowning and sipping his beer.
He watched them run by, his apron still splattered with grease.
“They didn’t want my crumbcake, not even a piece!
They passed up my hash browns! Said no to French toast.
Didn’t want my eggs benedict served on pot roast!”
And he puzzled three hours, `till his feast had gone cold.
‘Til in the Binge’s head, a thought finally took hold.
Then the Binge had a idea,
"Maybe Fit-Mas," he said. "Doesn't come from a meal.
Maybe Fit-Mas... perhaps... is a much bigger deal!”
And what happened then...?
Well, some like to admit,
That the Binge’s tight pants
Made him want to get fit.
And the minute he started on down the right road,
He felt a tremendous lightening of his own heavy load.
So he threw out the food!
All that unhealthy schlock!
And he...
...HE HIMSELF...!
The Binge jogged ‘round the block!

Ways Being Overweight Is Like Halloween
- You ought to be more scared of it than you actually are
- You keep a bunch of candy around the house “for the kids”
- They don’t make the best clothes in your size
- You detest folks that insist on offering you healthy treats
- Sometimes you get creeped out when you catch your reflection in the mirror
- Your children get a lot more exercise than you do
- Feel as though you’re wearing a bulky costume
- Can’t walk around the block without stopping at every house and asking for food
- When you get dressed up, people think you look frightening
- Insert your own “goblin” joke here
- You often steal food from your children
- You want to hide your face

Sea of Possibilities
So there you are, in your little boat, bobbing along in the middle of a vast, seemingly endless ocean. Some days the wind catches your sails and scoots you along, making your journey easy and effortless. It doesn’t even seem like work as you breezily skip across the water, enjoying the salt air and sunshine.
Most days, however, your progress doesn’t come that easy. More likely, it depends on you sticking your oars in the water and rowing for all you are worth.
And some days the waves will push you away from where you want to go. That doesn’t seem quite fair, I know, but the ocean makes its own rules.
And every day, you’ll have to decide…
Should I turn back?
Am I content going nowhere?
Will I give in?
Right now, it may seem that your goal is forever-and-a-day away. You’re lost and alone and the challenge ahead of you seems so large and intimidating.
But remember this: you had the courage and commitment to strike out to sea. You crossed huge hurdles and passed through severe storms.
You’ve made it this far.
Spotting dry land may take months, may take years, but if the course you’ve plotted is true, then one day –– and maybe one day soon –– you’ll make it to where you’re headed and be strengthened by the experience all the more.
Your hopes, your dreams, your goals… they’re out there, within grasp if you power through and persevere. Each day that you keep pushing forward, each day that you stay pointed in the right direction... well, it's one day closer to your goal.
Bon voyage.

not what ships are built for.”

Once upon a time, there was a wise old Chinese dude named Confush*t who often said wise and quotable things. Now Confush*t had two large pots for carrying water, each hung on the ends of a pole which he carried across his neck as Chinese fellows so often do in stories such as this.
One of the pots was beautiful and perfect and always delivered a full portion of water, but the other one had a nasty crack in it. At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with Confush*t delivering only one and a half pots full of water to his house.
Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been put on this Earth to do. After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to Confush*t one day by the stream.
“I am ashamed of myself because this crack in my side causes water to leak all the way back to your house.”
Confush*t spoke softly to the pot, “Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of the path, but not on the other pot’s side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you’ve watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house.”
The flawed pot replied, “Thank you, dear Confush*t. I don’t feel so worthless anymore.”
“Worthless?” laughed Confush*t. “Do you know what a talking pot goes for on eBay these days? The bidding is up to $4,500 and there’s still three days left…”
Moral: Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots. But it’s the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. Look for the good in each person you meet. And it’s true: talking pots will fetch a bundle on eBay.

The Emperor’s New Pants
With apologies to Hans Christian AndersenLong ago, there lived an emperor, who was… well, let’s just say he made Henry the Eighth look like Sammy the Skinny Serf. When Shakespeare said “heavy is the head that wears the crown,” this was the guy he was probably talking about.
Anyway, even though he was morbidly obese, he always took great pains to dress impeccably. In fact, there were only two things the emperor really liked: clothes and macaroni and cheese (well, technically that’s three things).
He didn’t care for his soldiers, and the theatre did not amuse him; the only thing, in fact, he thought anything of was to hit the drive-thru window of the kingdom’s fast food joints and go shopping for new duds at Ye Olde Big & Tall Emporium. He had a coat for every hour of the day, and even a special coat that he wore to the… ummmm… when he was going to the “throne” room.
One day a man named Charlie Ton came to this city. This guy made people believe that he was a mighty weight-loss wizard, and declared he could help anyone in the kingdom lose weight without diet or exercise. Though they were ignorant peasants, most of the inhabitants of the land were too smart to be taken in by the conniving con man.
However, losing weight without diet or exercise sounded pretty much okey-dokey to the emperor, so he granted an audience to the scurrilous scammer.
“What is it?” asked the emperor hungrily. “Adkins? South Beach? Please tell me that I do NOT have to have someone count points for me…”
“No, sire,” replied the smiling Charlie. “You just don these magic pants and you can eat whatever it is thy heart doth desire.”
The emperor was obliviously happy and took the magic trousers. He had his attendants disrobe him and he slipped on the new pants.
“Check it out!” he said, admiring himself in his royal mirror. “They feel great! And they even have a drawbridge.”
“Do you mean a ‘drawstring,’ my liege?” asked his head attendant.
After the beheading, the new head attendant commented on the emperor’s attire: “My, those pants for stylin’, forsooth! How’s that drawbridge feel?”
“Fantastic,” laughed the emperor. “Now let’s go get our buffet on!”
A month went by and the emperor never took off his magic pants, but he did have to loosen the draw… the drawbridge once or twice.
Then one day, while out serving as official starter for the Annual King Spring Fling 5K run, a young boy pointed at him and scoffed.
“Ha! The emperor’s wearing sweat pants in public! He’s given up!”
Sadly, the emperor realized that the young lad was correct. That night, he started a new diet, began a strenuous exercise program and launched his own blog: “Losing Weight… My Crowning Achievement”.

How Do You Eat A Whale?
Istarted working on this post about taking a one-bite-at-a-time attitude
to your weight loss efforts, but then I realized that the title of the
post was a bit misleading. I remembered that many of my Eskimo readers
(Hi, Nyako, Tapenga and Dadgayadoh) would take the title literally and
would be expecting whale-preparation tips. Once I get going with one of
these blog entries, I really hate to change directions, so I suppose
this post should actually be titled “How Do You Eat A Whale, Both
Literally and Figuratively?”
Well, obviously… first you need to
catch a whale. Lucky for you, I have some experience with this. I went
on a whale-watching boat trip a couple of summers ago down in Sayulita,
Mexico. Our boat came in nice and tight on several of the buggers, and I
can tell you this from first-hand experience: they’re big. I’m just
not sure that your average rod-and-reel is going to be able to handle
one of these mothers. I’m certainly no fishing expert, but I’d go with a
Shimano Spheros 18000FB with the Paladin gear-enhancement, higher line
capacity and cold-forged spools with improved drag-systems. And don’t
forget the worms!
Let’s just assume, for a minute, that you can’t catch a whale. Don’t feel too bad; I couldn’t
either(I didn’t have my fishing gear with me; what’s your excuse?). There’s a
simple solution, my friend. Just go over to Japan where they sell fresh
whale, frozen whale, canned whale, cubed whale, dried whale, pickled
whale and whale-on-a-stick. Can’t get to Japan? Geez, don’t you know how
to use MapQuest yet, stupid?
So now you’ve got yourself a nice hunk of juicy whale meat. Now what?
I
found this recipe for Whale Stew on the internet. Have you ever started
making something and you didn’t check the ingredient list to make sure
your cupboard was stocked with everything you need to make the dish?
That’s exactly what happened to me on this one. Don’t be a dumbass like
me: check and make sure that you have all the ingredients you need
before you start cooking.
Whale Stew
Ingredients:
1 (105 ton) Whale
1,896 lbs Onions
7,326 lbs Potatoes
1,908 gallons Tomato Sauce
2,276 lbs Carrots
927 lbs Celery
104 lbs Salt
76 lbs Black Pepper
52 gallons Tabasco Sauce
Directions:
Place whale in pot with tomato sauce. Cook at 300 degrees for 4 hours.
Add onions, potatoes, carrots, celery, salt, pepper and Tabasco sauce.
Simmer 36 hours. Serves 347,161 people.
Truthfully, this recipe is just “okay.” If I make it again, I’m gonna add a pinch of oregano.
Let’s
say that you’re just trying to learn more about figuratively eating a
whale, you know, like losing a whole lot of weight. Well, in that case
you should just take it “one bite at a time.” Sorry, I was going to
write a lot more about the subject, but I used up too much space for the
Eskimos (Message to Nyako, Tapenga and Dadgayadoh: “Inuktitut (goodbye)
and have an ‘ice’ weekend!”.
Next time, I’ll try to put the weight loss stuff first.

Regrettable Comments I’ve Left on Weight Loss Blogs
Have you ever left a comment on somebody’s weight loss blog, and then immediately thought “Oh, maybe that wasn’t the right thing to say?” And then you were going to erase it and write something more sensible, but then your daughter Pisa calls you at the office and tells you to bring home popsicle sticks for a project she’s working on so you gotta spend the rest of the day eating popsicles even when you’re not really that hungry and the Popsicle Dude only had lime popsicles after you chased him all the way down the street yelling “Whoa! Stop! Popsicle Dude!” Yeah, me too.- “You’ve come a long way, Fatty.”
- “Maybe your mom hates you.”
- “Your kid sure is funny-looking.”
- “If anything, it looks like you’ve gained weight.”
- “Maybe they fired you because you were incompetent.”
- “That haircut is hideous.”
- “Wow, your daughter’s smokin’. What’s her email address?”
- “That dish looks like somebody threw up on a plate.”
- “Jesus… just give up already.”
- “Maybe he hasn’t called because he’s been in a car accident.”
- “Just do everything your husband says and your marriage will be fine.”
- “Have you ever heard of “spelcheck,” stupid?
- “I lose more than that when I break wind.”
- “Will you please quit talking about 'losing a stone'? I don’t even know what that means…”
- “Who designed your blog… a sea-sick chimpanzee?”
- “You deserve a reward. How about a pan of warm brownies and a glass of whole milk?”
- “Gain because of TOM? Riiiiiiiiiiiight.”
- “LOL at your cancer story.”

Lion-Hearted
It’sa myth, you know, that overweight people suffer from low self-esteem
more than the rest of the population. In fact, psychological tests given
to overweight folks have proven that obese individuals are, on balance,
just as mentally healthy (or unhealthy) as anyone else. There’s no
support for the idea that overeating is generally associated with poor
mental or emotional health. Quite the opposite, actually; many slim
people who were interviewed said they wouldn’t have the courage to go
out if they were obese. They’d simply stay at home and hide their fat
faces.
Think about it: you get up every morning, get out of bed
and face the world head-on. You accept strangers’ stares, children’s
cruel comments and friends’ “helpful” advice, all with a wane smile and
gentle good grace. You’ve recognized the inner demons that have put you
in the state you’re in, and you’re going about doing something about it.
You’re getting your life in check, as well as providing emotional
support for others who are also getting their lives in check.
Here’s my point: you’re not weak.
Here’s my second point (and this may sting a little): you’ve got to get stronger.
You’ve
got to get stronger because this is a long, uphill climb, and it will
take its toll on you, both mentally and physically. You’ve got to get
stronger because time is not on
your side, and Life will jump up and throw hurdle after hurdle after
hurdle in your path. You’ve got to get stronger because me and everyone
else that follows your story aren’t going to be satisfied until you
reach your goals.
We’ve all got our own ways of fighting this
fight, our own methods to this madness. You may cut carbs, she may count
calories, he may swim 50 laps a day, I may simply try to eat smarter
and exercise more. There’s no one way–no right way–to get there from
here.
But ask yourself this: Am I really doing all I can to succeed?
If
you can honestly say “yes,” then God bless you, but I suspect that
you’re in the minority if that’s truly the case. I know this is going to
sound… well, funny… coming from a guy named Jack Sh*t who spends half
his day telling fart jokes and making kooky lists, but you’ve got to get
serious about this if you want to find the success you claim you want.
You need to shift it into high gear, and start getting it done, and I
mean like, today. You can
half-ass it for as long as you want, but the real results aren’t going
to happen for you until you knuckle down. Until you get serious.
There
is a lion in my heart, and he’s roaring at the fat that I’ve saddled
myself with by being stupid and lazy. Roaring at the complacency that
allowed me to put my own health and future in jeopardy. He’s roaring at
me every day, filling my spirit with grit and reminding me that this is
my day, this is my time. He’s pushing me to run wild and pounce on this
chance, this opportunity to reclaim my life.
This journey is not for the weak or the meek; it is for the strong-willed and the lion-hearted.
It’s time for you to roar.

A Sh*t-blimenal Message
I wanted to write a real positive
message today to inspire my fellow weight loss journey-takers, but I’ve
been getting the sense that several of them are in need of some tough
love, a brutal butt-kicking to help get them back on track. Since I’m
entirely too lazy to write two posts, I’ve gone ahead and put both of
them into the same post. If you need the hard stuff, just read the
colored text. Otherwise, enjoy a healthy dose of positivity.
You are doing so well. You’ve managed to really stick with it, to suck it up and do right. Really, you have a lot to be proud of, and I hope you are proud. You’re still going to have to put in an awful lot of effort at keeping this awesome momentum going. Are there going to be more tough days ahead for you? Sure there are (though even the tough days are going to get easier over time), but you’ve got what it takes to keep going strong, keep trying to be the best possible “you” you can be. You know that to be true, but sometimes you need to hear it again to make sure you don’t lose focus. This weight loss journey you and I are on is difficult, and I don’t have all the answers, but I do know that if you keep your drive, you keep your determination, and really keep your eyes on what’s important, on what you really want out of this life or this lifetime, there’s no possible way for you not to succeed. You may just be starting this journey or you may have been on it for decades, but all that matters is that your future is right here, and it’s right out in front of you. This is your time. This is your opportunity to shine, to finally get to be the person that you know is inside you. What you’re doing is going to make a difference; it really is.
Get busy doing what it takes, whatever it takes, to reclaim your life. Don’t give it to anything that starts eating away at your drive to get this done. The past is water under the bridge, and all your can control is your future. Start believing you’re moving towards your brand new life–a life that isn’t defined by being fat– and, the next thing you know, that’s exactly where you are. Sound simple? You bet your sweet ass it is. That’s because you already know what to do. You’ve got brains and you’ve got the willpower. Let’s agree on one thing: you’ve got everything you need to get what you want and make this happen. You’ve got too much going for you to fail. It’d be selling yourself short not to give it everything you’ve got, and we both know you’re not stupid. Nobody is going to lump you in with the folks that aren’t going to give their all to get this done. You’re special!
If we’ve learned anything on this journey, it’s that you can’t succeed if you don’t put in your best effort. We all want the same thing: to take our life and make it all that it can be. That’s why we give it all we’ve got, make the sacrifices we make and own up to our true potential. When our head’s in it, the game’s already half won. You’re in this to win it; no more wasting chances when you’re worth so much more. This is your time. It really is, my friend. It’s your time to be fulfill everyone’s best wishes for you. It’s time to make it happen.
It is wonderful that you’ve made such fantastic progress, but your life’s just getting started, chum. Shut out all those voices that feed you negative energy and load up on all the positive support and good vibes that’re waiting for you out in the world. Get motivation wherever you can get it and get going in the direction of what you dream (and know) your life can be. Let nothing hold you back and never fool yourself into thinking that you don’t have it in you to do this.
Start small, celebrate your progress and remember that this is more doing some fad diet; it’s a new lease on life and it starts right now. This is the moment you’ve been waiting for. It starts right here and now, and week after week, you’re going to make each day count. Today is your day. Right your ship and sail off into the future with the promise of a better tomorrow and the assurance that now is your time, and that your destination is a better tomorrow. Get it together and get going!

What My Scale Might Say If It Could Talk
“Get off! Get off! Get off!”- “Maybe you’re just retaining fat.”
- “They say any loss is a good loss. How’s about -.00001 lbs.?”
- “Here comes the pain!”
- “Round and round she goes, where she stops, nobody knows.”
- “When you lose, you take all the credit; when you gain, ya blame me!”
- “Looks like you’ve got Dunlap’s Disease. Your belly’s done lapped over your belt.”
- “Ummmmph!”
- “On the moon, you’d only weigh 43 pounds.”
- “Why don’t you try again… maybe it’ll be drastically lower.”
- “And you thought nobody saw you eat those chips…”
- “Good news: you’re still beating anorexia!”
- “Does this number make you look fat?”
- “Tippin’ is encouraged. Get it, get it? Tippin’ the scales… ah, you don’t know funny.”

- “I’ve got an idea: today I’ll stand on you and call you a f*ckin’ b*tch.”
- “Say, are you losing weight?
